All the favs this week!
ONE// J.Crew Top: “Comfort” is a key part of my wardrobe and this top is the perfect combo of comfy + chic. Perfect with jeans and sneaks or oversized with leggings!
TWO// Essie ‘The Perfect Cover Up’: When it comes to nail polish, I’m usually a neutrals girl with little exception. But the Essie Fall 2014 line is pretty great, and there’s a good chance I’ll test the waters with a couple. I never thought a variation on turquoise polish would make one of these lists… #branchingout.
THREE// J.Crew Factory Flats: There’s a very good chance I shared these shoes in pink last year….but now, navy. If you asked me to design my perfect pair of flats, it would probably be these. Holding off purchasing for now (I’m trying to be good! And because these are also on my list), but consider me obsessed.
FOUR// L.L. Bean Bag: This bag is beautiful and the budget-friendly version of the Coach bag I’ve been coveting for quite some time. I’d definitely want it in a more versatile color — maybe they’ll restock — but if you want something colorful, this one’s great. I’m a huge proponent of anything L.L. Bean… everything is so well made and their customer service is phenomenal!
FIVE// Julie Vos Earrings: Turquoise is a stone that I love in moderation (I just don’t pull off an abundance of it well!) and these earrings are the perfect amount. They’re elegant without being too showy, which can be hard to come by these days! Not to mention they’re in the Julie Vos Sample Sale…
SIX// Ella Moss Silk Tank: I know this top is a) expensive and b) not something you’d normally see me post, but truth is, I do love a good pattern (not just Lilly!). This tank is beautiful and I’m a huge fan of the subtle navy neckline. Definitely something that could be worn year-round, too!
Sidenote/PSA: The site is going to be down for a bit tonight in preparation for the elusive surprise (ok, redesign) that I’ve been dropping hints about for awhile now. Fingers crossed it all goes to plan…things should be back to normal by Friday A.M.
While it’s no secret that I’m an autumn girl, I still can’t resist a good beachfront property. Quaint, nautical, classic beach houses are probably my favorite photos to browse during the spring/summer months and since August is coming to a close, I figured I’d share one more of my favorites.
This Rhode Island home epitomizes nearly everything I’d want in my own [hypothetical] beach house. The upholstery is what first caught my eye… pretty much every surface is adorned with a fabric that I love. White chairs with piping, navy + white striped bar stools, and a whimsical tufted coffee table. How cool is that? Coffee table designs have become increasingly unique lately and while I usually see myself going a more traditional route for those kind of basics, I’m kinda digging this! This home also has the perfect amount of pattern mixing… it’s subtle, confined to the pillows, and all in the same color family.
Any particular elements call out to you? Maybe the really awesome dining room table or the fireplace? I think both are pretty great!

Cooking is all about taking risks, big or small. I took a little bit of a risk with this (let’s be honest, there’s nothing too groundbreaking about the ingredients/process), but nonetheless, I’m pretty proud of this concoction. It was the best way to break in my new mason jars, plus the ingredients are really easy to keep on hand: any kind of fruit, Greek yogurt, granola, and graham crackers. Greek yogurt is key so things don’t get too soggy. I’m calling it breakfast pie because it’s sort of the breakfast version of a “normal” pie…the yogurt = whipped cream, crushed graham crackers = crust minus the butter.
Like many of my recipes, there are a lot of approximations here. It’s honestly pretty hard to screw up, and I love how you can use whatever fruit you have at the time. I made another version with donut peaches (so, so good!) and think strawberries would also be amaze. One tip though: eat it soon after you make it, because the moisture from the yogurt starts to make the graham crackers a little soggy. No big deal, but it’s optimal when they’re crunchy! This is the perfect thing to throw together before work if you eat breakfast at your desk, and it makes for a great afternoon snack (just take the graham cracks + granola in plastic bag and add it to the top when you’re ready to eat!) Hope you enjoy!
Fruit + Yogurt Breakfast Pie
Makes 1 serving
– approximately 1/2 cup graham crackers (approximately three
– approximately 1 cup of fruit (I slices up cherries)
– approximately 3/4 cup Greek yogurt (I used Greek Gods Honey-flavored)
– 1 teaspoon granola
– 1 16oz mason jar
Add graham crackers to mason jar and crush into small pieces with spoon or fork. Add fruit. Top with yogurt and sprinkle with granola. Told ya — easy peasy!

Hi guys…Happy Monday! Just some brief thoughts today — lots going on over here but I wanted to pop in with these words that are currently inspiring me. As I mentioned on Friday, changes to the site are coming (very!) soon and I’m working with Meli to wrap things up. In the meantime, you can shop one of my favorite sales of the year — the Lilly Pulitzer semi-annual sale (known this year as the After Party Sale.) It starts at 8 a.m. today. This is by far the best time of the year to buy Lilly — all kind of products + styles are deeply discounted and shipping is still free. Make sure you complete your purchase as soon as you add something to your cart — just because it’s in your cart doesn’t mean it’s on hold. Since shipping is free, Lilly encourages you to make multiple purchases if necessary. The signature stores often partake in the sale as well, so it’s worth stopping by if there’s one nearby. Things notoriously go fast, so get shoppin’!
Happy friday, Friends! I hope you all had a nice week. This weekend is an exciting one with a close friend moving into town, some Jazz in the Garden tonight, and a special birthday to celebrate. Despite this being my third summer in DC (I was here between my junior and senior years), I haven’t yet made it to Jazz in the Garden. The weather is supposed to be beautiful so I’m pretty excited to pack some wine + cheese and have a relaxing evening with good music. On a completely other note, I’ve been working hard on a little facelift for Cake & Lilies and it’s almost done! Hope to have it unveiled in a few days, so keep your eyes peeled for that. It’s going to be pretty great!
Any fun plans for the weekend on your end? This city is so quiet in August…everyone seems to be on vacation! If you are, I’ll plan to live vicariously through you!
– Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Latte will be back this month, as in before September. It’s no secret that I love fall, but this is a little aggressive? Apparently you can order it iced, though…
– I don’t think Kate has ever posted a style that I didn’t like, but she completely read my mind with this post about navy + camel. Isn’t it the best combination? I’ve been toying with the idea of a camel coat and it doesn’t seem like a terrible idea.
– Obligatory panda triplet post…obviously! Judge me all you want, but I still think they’re the cutest little nugs in their naked mole rat state. These are the only three panda triplets to have survived this long, which is really amazing considering how many newborns — even “only children,” if you will — don’t make it.
– Did you see? I posted about my favorite Instagram accounts this week!
– We already know that Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are a fantastic couple (look at them…) but this is proof that they have a great sense of humor as well. Ryan wrote a letter applying to be the Editorial Director of Blake’s new start-up and it’s hilarious/ nerdily-adorable. The Blakery? That’s love.
